What is the Young Voices of the World project?

This project was started in 1995 as a forum in the publication of The Kuzuryu Memoirs, a college student essay collection, with a view to enhancing international writtten communication, especially among young students, future key persons in the 21st Century. Throughout the world many problems will continue to arise, and the basic principle for solving them will definitely be communication. With the electronic advances of today, written communication by means of the "internet" has become of more necessity. That is why this forum was started.

How were the "Voices" collected and selected?

The internet was mainly used to call for student essays, but sometimes normal mail was sent to relevant quarters like universities and embassies. Contributions were also sent in by e-mail, fax, or snail mail. The most convenient is the electronic mail, because it facilitates computer editing to a great extent. Selection was made in terms of content and the space available for the forum.

What were the reactions to the Voices?

Our students are mostly interested in the forum, because they want to know what other young people of the world think and do. Comments from some regular readers also find the project very valuable. Now that the forum is on the internet, we hope there will be more and more reactions from positive-minded readers all over the world.
